Ralph has owned his Damask
Red B from new. If he bought it to impress women then it worked because
he met his wife Kathy the same year! Unlike many people who regrettably
sold their 2 seaters when children came along, Ralph and Kathy have 3
girls and still kept the car. The
car has done a relatively trouble free 118,000 miles with the original
engine, and Ralph took pictures as it rolled over from 99,999 miles. It
has had a new clutch and a paint job.
The car was rear ended one time and after
repair Ralph and Kathy drove it to Montreal, only to break down on the
Jacques Cartier bridge, the significance of which will be apparent to
anyone who has experienced the tolerance of Qubec drivers*, although
someone in an Austin Healey did offer to give them a push. The problem
reoccurred several times until they discovered that the rear-end repair
folks had forgotten to reattach the fuel pump ground.
*It is an interesting fact that even
though the British relieved Qubec of its ties with France a full 100
years before the invention of the horseless carriage, the otherwise
charming Montralers have inherited their Parisian cousin's impatient
and aggressive driving habits.
