24 June 2010

I have just received my copy of July 2010 MG Enthusiast magazine.  This edition has a great article in it on the MG Y of Leigh Wallace that will be on the Reprinted Article list in due course, however while you are waiting for this,MG Enthusiast magazine is well worth the subscription and is by far the best MG magazine out there achieving a good balance between "old"  and "new" models.

Y Types are at last getting the recognition they deserve as a recent comment in The Sacred Octagon June 2010 magazine demonstrates.  The Scared Octagon is the journal of the New England MG T Register, and the paragraph says:

In the Members Dashboard we have a Poll set up to ask our members questions about all things MG.  Our first poll - 'What sort of MG would you buy if you won the lottery?'  Taken by 65 members and the results are in. We found out that Y Types are the winner with 11 votes; K types - 8; TF - 8; SA/VA/WA - 7; TC - 7; TD - 6; J2 - 5; TA/TB - 4; PreWar - 1; L1 - 1 and Racing - 0.

Well - there you have it: at last the Y is out pacing all variants of T Types! The Sacred Octagon June 2010 edition also has several nice photographs of Ys in it and a great colour photograph of John Friedler's YT (YT 3030) on the back cover.  The Ys have it!

Brad and Vicki Wilson have also updated their page on the development of their racing special Y 3222.

You probably noticed a change to the welcome page layout part way through May 2010, and if you were observant you will have seen that it has changed again, with an additional item now added to it.  We are pleased to announce, after many requests, access to an on-line Register!  This has been developed with the invaluable help and assistance of Steve James, son of the well known John James of T-Type fame, and we are truly thankful to John for his hard work on this.  This is a real step forward and we have taken the issue of your privacy very seriously in making this release.  The data is constantly changing as more Registrations are coming in.  Please try the database and look up your car.  If you do not see it on there, or the information we have is incorrect, please click the Update Details button on the record card page and send me the corrections on the online form.  You can also use that same form to add a picture, and add your car to Ys on Parade too.  We are still working on the final layout of the data record card.

Today we have three new cars added to Ys on Parade - please welcome Michael Lewis with Y 5020, Duncan Millman with Y 7051, and Dishna Dissanayake with YT 4921.

The Reprinted Article for the beginning of June comes from The Autocar, 26 May 1950 and is another journey with Michael Brown.

Finally, this month's Picture of the Month page is dedicated to the memory of Alf Luckman - a great MG Y man who is greatly missed.
